Stance

The stance of a document is the attitude the writer hold on the topic of their writing. The papers we had to write for Writing for Engineering did not experiment with stance too much. For the most part, your stance on your writing is either neutral or in support. For example, the stance on the class’s technical descriptions were neutral because our purpose was simply to inform. The writer’s opinion on what they thought about their product was not relevant or informative in a technical description. However, the stance on the engineering proposal was in support of what the writer is proposing. This is obvious because the writer is trying to persuade their audience to approve or fund their proposal. There was a wider variety of stance in the group reviews that we had to write as a group. The comments we received on our works in the discussion boards had different stances on what could be improved and how much we needed to improve our writing.
