“Formulate and articulate a stance through and in your writing.”

Stance was one of the elements of rhetoric situation that we studied in Writing for Engineering. Stance was not something the class explored too deeply, however we still managed to develop a solid understanding of stance and how it applies in our technical writing. All our assignments required us to formulate a stance, and support our stance using evidence and research from trusted sources. When writing about our stance, we never explicitly claimed what our stance on the topic was. Instead, we would skillfully weave our stance into parts of our assignment to make  our intentions clear without making the nuance of the assignment awkward. Our assignments required a reflection essay after our technical writing pieces, where we would analyze how stance, as well as the rest of the elements, were present in our technical writing.
